I can’t believe I’ve been completely enthralled by a paranormal romance.  But this novel has everything — witchcraft, love, vampires, demons, secret covens, lost spell-bound books – and it all works!  It’s book one of a trilogy.  Guess who’ll be looking for book two.

This re-telling of the classic Bram Stoker novel is presented from the point of view of Mina Murray who, as it turns out, had much more to do with Dracula than was previously thought.  The gothic imagery and flowing Victorian language are true to the original tale while an epic love story is revealed and developed.  Lovers of romance and horror alike will enjoy this book.  Certainly one of the most romantic vampire novels to be published in recent years.

Vampire Lestat by Anne RiceTitle: The Vampire Lestat

One of the best vampire novels ever, this is the autobiography of an aristocrat in pre-revolutionary France who is turned into a vampire by a suicidal alchemist. His subsequent existence as a nineteenth century southern gentleman in New Orleans and a twentieth century rock star is tainted by the memories of his killings and troubled relationships. A must-read for any fan of vampires.

Jane Bites Back by Michael Thomas Ford

Jane Bites Back by Michael Thomas FordFirst there was Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Seth Grahame-Smith (“the classic Regency romance-now with ultraviolent zombie mayhem!”), now we have popular essayist and novelist Michael Thomas Ford’s take on Jane Austen.  No zombies here but Lord Byron has turned Jane into a vampire, a vampire who currently owns a bookstore in upstate New York.    That’s right it’s Jane “The Fang” Austen.  Read an excerpt here.
