A Crime So Montrous: Face to Face with Modern Day Slavery by E. Benjamin Skinner

Crime so Monstrous by E. Benjamin SkinnerTitle:  A Crime So Monstrous:  Face-to-Face with Modern Day Slavery

Author:  E. Benjamin Skinner

Call #:  306.362 SKI

According to the author, there are more slaves in the world today than at any time in history.  After four years of research and visiting dozens of countries, he found that slavery is not dead.  It comes in many forms:  agricultural slaves in India, children that are forced to become soldiers in Africa, women kidnapped and brutalized into becoming sex slaves in Eastern Europe and people from poor countries bought and used as household slaves in America.  Skinner details the efforts of the U.S. government, churches, activists groups and committed individuals to fight this ongoing tragedy and the mixed results they have achieved.  In particular the valiant efforts of former U.S. ambassador John Miller to fight countries who support slavery, slave traffickers and, unfortunately, his own government in trying to bring an end to this evil enterprise.  Plodding at times, but an important look at an issue we too readily assume has been resolved.
